Paddons Paddock Jessica Sauvignon Gris

2020 – Dry

The wine: A unique wine less commonly seen on Central Otago and New Zealand vineyards. Our Sauvignon Gris offers lifted spicy guava and passionfruit aromatics, followed by a lush warmly-textured palate with a strong lingering finish.

The story: The Paddons Paddock Jessica Sauvignon Gris is named after the Paddon family’s eldest daughter. Jessica is currently studying Commerce, Marketing and Business at the University of Otago in Dunedin. She works on the vineyard when she is at home on holidays, and safe to say her university degree comes in very handy – she has a lot of input!

The Sauvignon Gris grape is a happy accident. It is its own varietal, but believed to be a mutation of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Sauvignon Gris wines have those same dry, herbaceous qualities, but are richer and fuller-textured – and they look great with their subtle pink blush.

At Paddons Paddock, we use seaweed to feed the vines and sulphur to protect them from powdery mildew, farming as organically as we can. Vines can be very sensitive and need a lot of nurturing – we’re constantly monitoring them for disease or growth problems. They are the Paddon family’s youngest children!

The winemaker: Our Sauvignon winemaker is Central Otago legend Dean Shaw. Dean has been making wine with grapes from more than a dozen different vineyards for 18 years, which probably makes him one of the most experienced winemakers in the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes areas. He started his education in New Zealand before traveling to France where he studied winemaking in Burgundy, Austria and South Africa, and has worked with a number of Central Otago and Queenstown wineries.

The ideal pairing: Our Jessica Sauvignon Gris goes beautifully with all types of fish, shellfish and cheese.

Buy our Paddons Paddock Quails’ Jessica Sauvignon Gris online for delivery straight to your door, by the glass at our wine bar, or enjoy as part of a wine tasting experience on our vineyard.
